Amboss and Aureo Connect the Lightning Network to Mexico’s Banking System

Businesses and individuals anywhere in the world can now send payments that arrive as pesos in a Mexican bank account in seconds

Until now, the Lightning Network’s instant settlement stopped at the edge of Mexico’s financial system. With this integration, any business using Amboss Payments can route funds to an Aureo Lightning address and have them arrive as Mexican pesos in a bank account via SPEI, Mexico’s interbank transfer system, in seconds. A customer pays in bitcoin over the Lightning Network, and the recipient in Mexico receives pesos in their bank account without touching an exchange.

Lightning payments have become increasingly popular, with a reach of more than 900 million users globally through exchange apps including Coinbase, Binance, and Cash App. For businesses, Lightning payments cost less than traditional payment cards and settle instantly and finally, with no chargeback risk, making them an attractive supplement to card processing.

The timing reflects a large and underserved market. The United States and Mexico traded an estimated $872 billion in goods in 2025, making Mexico America’s largest trading partner, yet most cross-border business payments still move on slow and costly correspondent banking rails.
