Bill Cottrell Announces the Release of Minneapolis Miracle, a Gripping Legal and Political Thriller Set in Minneapolis

New York, New York, United States, 6th Aug 2026 – Minneapolis attorney and author Bill Cottrell has published Minneapolis Miracle: From A Country Divided to a United States, a contemporary legal and political thriller set in Minneapolis.

The novel follows attorney John McDowell as he encounters personal and public conflicts involving political division, immigration reform, government corruption, fraud investigations, and the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. A 20-year reunion also reconnects John with a woman from his past, bringing questions of love, memory, loyalty, and second chances into the broader narrative.

Combining elements of legal fiction, political suspense, courtroom drama, romance, and family drama, Minneapolis Miracle examines how national issues affect individuals, families, communities, and public institutions. Its themes include immigration and citizenship, race, identity, faith, justice, public accountability, and the American dream.

The story is set against recognizable Minneapolis locations and reflects the city’s legal, social, political, and cultural environment. Basketball culture, changing community relationships, and several decades of social change also contribute to the novel’s setting and character development.

Cottrell has practiced law in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area for more than four decades. He grew up in South Minneapolis and served for 11 years as an adjunct professor at William Mitchell College of Law. His experience in the Twin Cities informed aspects of the novel’s legal setting, local context, and examination of public systems.

Although the book addresses political and social issues, its primary focus is on the people experiencing them. Through its fictional characters, the novel considers how people with different backgrounds and perspectives respond to uncertainty, disagreement, institutional change, and questions of responsibility.

The title, Minneapolis Miracle, refers both to the city in which the story is set and to the possibility of greater understanding and unity during a period of national division.
